Hello!

My name is Kelly Doscher.  I am the Owner and Tour Developer of The Food-Minded Traveler.  I created this 5-day culinary tour of Paris for one simple reason; love.
I love to travel, I love to cook and eat, I love to learn about the connection between food and culture, and I love to share it all with friends, family and like-minded people.

I have twenty-plus years of experience in the Food and Beverage and Event Planning industries.  But it wasn't until a few years ago, after reading the book On Rue Tatin, by Susan Hermann-Loomis, that I found my calling in developing and leading culinary tours.  I was so inspired by Susan's book that I went back to school at the age of 32 to get my degree in French Language and Literature.

My life was so impacted by Susan's book
that I wrote her a letter of thanks and asked if I could assist her in her kitchen in Normandy.  She accepted, and three months later I was in France.  I worked with her for one short, but very exciting week and I was hooked.  Since my time in Normandy, I have lived and studied in Paris, and, after my graduation from The University of Washington in 2006, I had the pleasure of translating for a culinary tour of Provence.

The Oxford American Dictionary defines gastronomy as the art or science of good eating and drinking.  We all know that the French are known as being the masters of this science.  Its history is deep and strong in France's ancient culture, and if I can help my guests taste even the smallest of culinary treasures, I will feel like my work is done.

I am thrilled to present The Food-Minded Traveler culinary tours.  It would be my honor to accompany you and yours on your next grand adventure.

Santé!

Testimonials

"The restaurant to which Kelly referred us... was one of the best and most authentically Parisian I have found. There were no other tourists in the place, yet the staff was warm and very accepting of us and of our limited French. Her understanding of our needs allowed Kelly to recommend us to exactly the perfect place."

"Wanting something special for our first night in Paris but too jet-lagged to go exploring, Mom and I ditched our guide books and decided to take Kelly's suggestion for dinner.

(The restaurant) turned out to be just what we were looking for: good French food without all the tourists. It's one of those hidden gems that's easy to get to -- if you know where to look. Kelly's  descriptions were spot-on, from the Metro ride to Place Saint-Michel to the tourist traps we were supposed to pass by to the inconspicuous door and the charming woman behind the bar when we walked in. We'd never have found it on our own. The prices were  reasonable, the cozy atmosphere buzzing with locals, and the food -- fantastic. Juicy duck confit that took up half the plate, tender lamb chops Mompicked clean, salade aux gesiers (gizzards, but I devoured them anyway) and iles flottantes that were what marshmallows want to be when they grow up. We had many a great meal during our two weeks in France, but (this) dinner... is the one we still talk about."
